Two Brampton youths are facing charges following an alleged crime spree, which spanned multiple GTA communities including Oakville.
Police allege thieves stole from several unlocked lockers at the Gellert Community Centre in Georgetown on July 19,, using the keys they found in one locker to steal a Honda CRV and a Kia Sorento from the parking lot outside.
Police allege the same individuals stole from a locker at the Glen Abbey Community Centre on Aug. 4, using the car keys they found there to steal an Acura CSX. The suspects then used this vehicle to commit multiple daytime break-ins to homes in Oakville.
Halton police worked with Peel Regional Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police, Hamilton Police Service, York Regional Police Service and Barrie Police Service in an effort to identify the suspects.
On Tuesday (Aug. 29) two arrests were made. Two teens now face charges not only for the Halton incidents, but incidents in Hamilton as well.
Police say the investigation is continuing in order to identify others who may have been involved.
"Our GTA communities may vary in identity and demographics, however geographic boundaries are irrelevant to criminals,” said Deputy Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah.
“The commitment of neighbouring police services to work together behind the scenes to investigate and eliminate crimes such as this is a testament to the strength in relationships we have across our policing community."
A 17-year-old Brampton boy has been charged with five counts of theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $5,000 and three counts of breaking and entering.
A 14-year-old Brampton boy has been charged with four counts of theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $5,000 and three counts of breaking and entering.
Neither individual can be identified because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4747 ext. 2261 or the Halton Hills Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4747 ext. 2116 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
